Trek Overview
The 3 Days Mount Meru Trek is a spectacular short hiking adventure inside Arusha National Park, offering breathtaking views of Mount Kilimanjaro, rich wildlife encounters, and diverse landscapes. This trek is perfect for hikers looking for a challenging but achievable climb, or as an excellent acclimatization trek before Kilimanjaro.
Accompanied by an armed ranger for safety, you’ll trek through lush rainforest, open moorlands, and alpine desert zones before reaching Socialist Peak at sunrise.
Day 1 — Momella Gate to Miriakamba Hut
After registration at Momella Gate, begin the trek through grassland and forest, often spotting giraffes, buffaloes, and monkeys. Ascend gradually to Miriakamba Hut for dinner and overnight rest.
Day 2 — Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut
Continue climbing through forest and moorland to Saddle Hut, located between Mount Meru and Little Meru. Optional acclimatization hike to Little Meru (3,820m) is highly recommended.
Day 3 — Summit Socialist Peak & Descend to Momella Gate
Start the summit attempt around midnight, reaching Socialist Peak (4,566m) at sunrise with stunning views of Kilimanjaro. Descend back to Saddle Hut, continue to Momella Gate, and transfer to your hotel.
